Today is National Signing Day as prep football standouts from all over the country sign National Letters of Intent with the colleges they have chosen to attend and play football at next season.Among the more highly-recruited players from the shore is Lakewood’s Tyrice Beverette who will make his decision official at 3pm and is expected to sign with either Delaware or Stony Brook.

Monmouth University’s recruiting class includes just one local player in Freehold Township defensive end Manny Maragoto among the 20 players announced by head coach Kevin Callahan today at the MAC. NCAA rules forbid parents and recruits from being on campus during Signing Day announcements.

Monsignor Donovan’s first Division 1 recruit in decades is Brad Henson and after first deciding on Virginia, the Griffins offensive lineman has changed his mind and signed with the University of North Carolina.

A pair of shore players are headed to Penn State: .highly-recruited defensive end Garrett Sickels of Red Bank and Toms River North kicker Chris Gula, who is headed to the Nittany Lions as a preferred walk-on.

A signing day surprise comes from Neptune wide receiver Keith Kirkwood who verbally committed to the University of Hawaii and in a last-minute change has decided to stay home and accept a scholarship from Rutgers.  He’ll be joined there by Red Bank Catholic’s Josh Klecko, the son of former Jets great Joe Klecko.

Other Division-1 recruits expected to sign today are St. John Vianney receiver Ishmael Hyman (Kansas), Rumson linebacker Travis Clark (Villanova) and Manalanpan wide receiver Anthony Firksker who is headed to Harvard where he’ll play both football and basketball.
