Shannon Cox, 50, of Seaside Heights, faces numerous charges including driving while intoxicated, assault by auto, failure to change lanes for an emergency vehicle, traveling against traffic on a one-way street, and leaving the scene of an accident with injuries, according to information from Brick police.

At about 11:30 PM, Patrolman Jeff Person drove to Brick Boulevard at Pine Tree Drive to assist Patrolman Paul Catalina, who had pulled a motorcyclist to the roadside for a violation, authorities said.

Person's car was on the shoulder when Cox's car, heading south, hit it and continued on, turning on to Lake Shore Way, heading in the wrong direction on the one-way street toward Lake Shore Drive, where Catalina and a sergeant finally stopped him.

Person was treated at Ocean Medical Center in Brick, and released.

Cox was arrested without incident and placed in the Ocean County Jail with bail set at $10,000, police said.
