Snowbound Barnegat woman gets help from police
Aged, disabled, and alone, facing torrential snow, power lapses and a voluntary evacuation advisory, a Barnegat woman managed Saturday on her own. By Sunday, she couldn't even get out of the house. One call to township police changed that.
They're equipped for every type of rescue. But this one required only shovels, gloves and boots in the 24-degree night air.
Sergeants Jason Carroll and Wayne Eslinger and a group of officers dug up a storm of their own, clearing the housefront and driveway within 30 minutes.
Officers Lauren Keilitz, Nicholas Venuto, Brett Taylor and Stephen Russoniello completed the group that applied the necessary elbow grease, doing "what the BTPD takes pride in-- serving the community and solving problems," a spokesman said.
