New Jersey will enjoy a dry and mostly mild weekend, although we'll have to get through some wet and potentially wintry weather first.

Here are your weather headlines for Friday, January 15, 2016...

Dry Day, Wet Night

So far, Friday morning hasn't been too bad with most temperatures in the 20s and 30s - far more comfortable than those single digit wind chills we saw earlier this week.

Even as clouds increase today, temperatures will end up on the mild side. High temperatures will range from about 47 degrees in North Jersey to about 57 degrees in South Jersey. That's something like 10 to 15 above normal for mid-January... again, a welcome change of pace from the rest of the week.

Our weather will stay dry during the daytime hours. But as early as 5 p.m. some rain will be moving into the southern part of the state, potentially impacting part of the evening rush hour. For the most part, the incoming storm system will produce only light to moderate rain across New Jersey, with most rainfall totals around a half-inch. However, a burst of heavier rain is possible right along the coast (which will be closer to the stronger "core" of this off-shore system). Meanwhile, in the northwest corner of the state, temperatures may fall cool enough to warrant some wintry mix tonight. Minor to no accumulation is expected.

By early Saturday morning, showers will taper off. The rest of the weekend looks mostly dry.

Beyond the Rain

New Jersey will stay in the warm air mass on Saturday, as high temperatures once again climb to around the 50 degree mark. With a brisk northwest wind, up to about 25 mph, it's hard to call it a "nice" day... But at least that's warm enough that we don't have to talk about classic, textbook wind chill this time around!

By Sunday, we'll start to feel the influence of the arctic once again, as cold air returns to the Garden State. Highs to close out the weekend will probably be limited to the upper 30s to lower 40s. That's similar to Thursday, and close to normal for this time of year.

Early Next Week

Monday looks to be another one of those bitterly cold, blustery days as arctic high pressure takes control of our atmosphere. We could see a few snow showers in the early morning hours on Monday - for now, this clipper system doesn't look to provide much if any accumulation. Temperatures will likely stay below freezing for most of New Jersey, with wind chills stuck in the teens and 20s all day.

The arctic influence looks to continue on Tuesday and Wednesday too, with highs only in the 30s. Even with the cold air back in place, there are no significant snow storms in the short-range or medium-range forecast.
