Several New Jersey schools are on alert following an FBI alert warning of a "threat of violence" made online against "a university near Philadelphia" on Monday.

Philly.com reports the message was posted on the website 4chan, the same site that posted about the shooting in Oregon last week.

Rowan University in Glassboro tweeted about the alert on Sunday night and also sent an email to students.

"We will continue to work with local/state public safety officials on this issue & will notify the University community of any other threats," reads the tweet. In an email the school noted its attendance policy "allows students to not attend class when they have a reasonable concern for their safety." but are responsible for making up any missed work. Some students tweeted that the school should have canceled classes.

Staff and students of Rutgers University's Camden campus were also alerted about the threat. "In an abundance of caution, the Rutgers University Police Department is working closely with county, state, and federal agencies, as well as police and security units at other area colleges and universities, to monitor and assess the situation," read an email.  "On-campus security patrols will be increased throughout the day," which urges students to report anything suspicious to campus police.

"Princeton University's Department of Public Safety is aware of this," wrote Princeton University spokesman Martin Mbugua in an email, "and has been working closely with other law enforcement agencies to address the same."

Rider University Media Relations Director Kristine Brown told New Jersey 101.5 an email was sent to students at the Lawrence Township school on Sunday night "out of an abundance of caution."

Mercer County College students were also sent an email about the alert and is also adding security to its campus' in West Windsor and Trenton according to MCC Public Relations Manager Jim Gardner.
