Random thoughts on this first day of April and I promise no April Fool’s Day jokes.

This is one of my favorite times of year as a sports fan.  We have the Final Four this weekend in Houston, the major league baseball season opens Sunday and includes a World Series rematch between the Mets and Royals and The Master’s is next week in Augusta, Georgia.

Throw in that today is the scheduled opener of the high school baseball season and it makes for a very exciting time.  Plus for those of you with younger kids it’s also the start of the soccer and baseball seasons so there is a lot going on for sure.

Speaking of high school baseball CBA opens the season as the #1 team in the Shore Sports Network Top Ten after finishing last season as the top ranked team in the state.  Red Bank Catholic is second followed by Middletown South, Barnegat and Manalapan.  Class A South as usual will likely be the shore’s deepest division with quality teams like Jackson Memorial, Toms River North, Toms River South and Brick Memorial. For a complete season preview visit shoresportsnetwork.com.

By the way Ken Frank begins his 39th season at TR South when the Indians host Jackson this morning.  Showing no signs of letting up the “Big Chief” is New Jersey’s winningest coach with 825 career victories.

Many of you likely had plans to do some outdoor work this weekend but the weather may not cooperate.  If that’s the case then head over to the Pine Belt Arena for the annual Ocean County Home Show which begins this afternoon at 4pm and runs through Sunday.  Sponsored by New Jersey Natural Gas more than 100 of the area’s top home improvement companies will be on hand and you’ll likely find the products and services you’ll need for everything from basic home improvements to new construction.  Among them Carl’s Fencing, Decking and Home Improvements, Kitchen King, Jersey Coast Landscaping, Built Rite Windows, Smart Carpet & Flooring and others……the full list is available at oceancountyremodelingshow.com.

You can also win $5000 to improve your home. Visit the Townsquare Expos booth at the show for details.
