Suspect in Red Bank robbery, shooting charged with attempted murder

The prime suspect in a 2014 robbery and shooting in Red Bank risks up to 20 years in prison for each of two first-degree attempted murder charges filed by the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office.

Inow Rainey, 26, of Eatontown, also faces first-degree charges of armed robbery and unlawful possession of a handgun, and two second-degree weapons counts, according to County Prosecturo Chris Gramiccioni's office.

Rainey and an accomplice are accused of attempting to rob two victims who were sitting in a car on West Sunset Avenue on November 6, 2014, shooting them, and fleeing.

Rainey's bail on this set of charges, set by Monmouth County Superior Court Juddge Honora O'Brien Kilgallen, is $600,000, cash only. He is already in the Monmouth County Correctional Institution (MCCI) in Freehold on $575,000 bail, connected to an armed robbery that occurred in November 2014 in Shrewsbury.

Police responding to reports of shots fired found the 29-year-old man and the 23-year-old woman shot. Both were hospitalized and survived, but the male victim has been partially paralyzed since the incident, authorities said.

If convicted of attempted murder at trial, Rainey would be required to serve 85 percent of his ultimate sentence, under terms of New Jersey's No Early Release Act, and to undergo five years of parole supervision.

Conviction for a charge of possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose would mean a possible 10 to 20 years in prison, with a stipulation under the Graves Act to serve at least 33 percent to 50 percent of the term or 42 months, whichever is greater.

Convictions on the rest of the second-degree charges would entail five to 10 years in prison for each, pursuant to the Graves Act.

Gramiccioni's office did not disclose whether Rainey has retained an attorney. The State's case is headed by county Assistant Prosecutor Christopher J. Decker.

Charges are accusations. Defendants are presumed innocent unless, and until, found guilty in a court of law.
