Michael Arsenault faces numerous burglary, theft and criminal mischief counts for the break-ins that began in May, authorities said.

He’s also charged with resisting arrest, obstruction of law, and possession of burglary tools.

Police said Arsenault gave his addressas the American Motel.

According to investigators, Arsenault was spotted by Patrolman Eric Harris on Route 166 (Main Street) near James Street at about 11:30 PM Wednesday.

He was carrying a large box on his head, but dropped it and ran north on Main when approached, police said.

Harris caught Arsenault and, after a brief struggle, discovered a plastic bag full of cash in his pants. Writing on some of the money linked it to Shut Up and Eat, on Main near Route 37, investigators said.

The box contained refrigerated perishable food that was still cold, a flashlight, and tools routinely used by buglars for break-ins, authorities said.

A check of the restaurant revealed a smashed window frame, severed phone wires, interior damage, and missing cash and food, police said.

Detective Roger Hull linked Arsenault to lootings at Pisces Seafood, AIC Insurance, Twin Roofing, Safelight Auto Glass, Johns Riverside Florist, Villa Amalfi, and Firestone Auto Repair.

Arsenault was placed in the Ocean County Jail in Toms River, with bail set at $180,000.
