An elderly Toms River woman was confronted in her bedroom and bound while her house was ransacked early this morning, and a spate of high-end car thefts continues. Township police are on the hunt for suspects in both cases.

Bound and robbbed

According to information disseminated by police, a man used a window in the Princess Court home to gain entry, then tied up the victim, at about 3 AM. Police said that she was not physically harmed but was traumatized.

Investigators have not determined how much was stolen. However, they say they are looking into motives and researching whether the suspect targeted the house and whether he had accomplices.

Anyone with relevant information can reach Detective Duncan MacRae, 732-349-0150, ext. 1323. Confidential messages can be left via the Toms River PD Facebook page.

Luxury losses

Six pricey cars in eight days have disappeared from driveways in the township during late night hours. After comparing notes with towns elsewhere in the state plagued with car thefts, investigators suspect that an organized group is involved.

Audi, BMW, Range Rover, Lexus and Jeep SRT are among the vehicles that were driven off. Each car was unlocked and either had keys or electronic key fobs still inside, police said.

Investigators said that a pattern of target neighborhoods has not emerged, but they suspect that thieves are casing neighborhoods during the days or evenings and returning between midnight and sunrise.

Car owners, you are again being urged to secure their vehicles before walking away, and to report anyone who appears out of place in your neighborhood at any hour of the day to Toms River PD, 732-349-0150.
