Tax Cut Plans – Which One Does the Public Like Most? [AUDIO]

A poll released by the New Jersey Association of REALTORS revealed that high property taxes remain the top concern for Garden State residents, yet when forced to choose among the dueling tax cut plans, most voters would choose Governor Chris Christie’s income tax cut proposal.

According to the poll of 800 randomly-selected registered New Jersey voters, nearly 90% say property taxes are too high, compared to 55% who say the same about income taxes and 39% about sales tax.

Voters showed broad support for all the proposals in the three-way tax cut race. Governor Christie’s plan, as well as the plans from Senate Democrats and Assembly Democrats, each received more than 60-percent in approval.

When forced to choose a plan, though, the majority of voters sided with Governor Christie.

“Forty percent chose Governor Christie’s plan, and 36 percent chose the Assembly plan,” said Joe Goode with American Strategies Incorporated, which conducted the survey for NJAR.

He said New Jersey voters just want some kind of tax relief, no matter what form it comes in.

The fact that Republicans and Democrats are both bringing tax cut plans to the table could be the reason for a surprising finding in the NJAR survey.

“This year is the first year that more people said the state is going in the right direction,” Goode explained.

More voters said the state is headed in the right direction (47%) than on the wrong track (42%).
