The Autumnal Equinox arrived at 4:44pm Sunday so that would make today the first full day of Autumn or Fall.
While many say this is their favorite time of year the days will begin to get shorter at a rapid pace.  Sunset today is 6:51 but by the end of the month it will be 6:39 and by this time next month the sun will set at 6:04 and we’ll have less than 11 hours of day light.  So enjoy it while you can.

Yes I am one of those idiots who stayed up last night to watch the Emmy Awards which of course is for prime-time TV.   Among the big winners were “Breaking Bad” and “Modern Family” which collected Emmy’s for Best Drama Series and Best Comedy Series.  Among other winners were Claire Danes, Jeff Daniels, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Jim Parsons and Steven Colbert.

Neil Patrick Harris was terrific as the host for the show which serves as a kickoff to the new season of prime-time TV which gets into full swing this week.

Before the NFL season began many were speculating that the Jets might not only be the worst team in the league but could go the entire season without a win.

So three weeks into the season the Jets have double the numbers of combined wins of both the Giants and Eagles.  While the Jets have been a bit better it’s more a statement on the other two local teams especially the Giants who are 0-3 for the first time in 17 years and yesterday were embarrassed in Carolina 38-0.

You have to give the Yankees credit for a terrific pre-game ceremony honoring Mariano Rivera Sunday as they rolled out some of his former teammates for a 50-minute program that was very well down.  The game’s greatest closer gave fans one more chance to cheer for him in New York when he retired the final five batters but unfortunately it came too late as the Yanks playoff hopes pretty much ended with a 2-1 loss to the Giants.

On November 5, 2010 Pinelands beat Toms River South and then lost their final two games of what was a 5-5 season.  The Wildcats went through both the 2011 and 2012 seasons without a victory and took a 22-game losing streak into Friday night’s home game against Point Boro.

However there is joy in Tuckerton as Pinelands rallied to beat the Panthers 16-13, winning it on Jon Kubricki’s third field goal of the night, a 30-yarder in overtime.   Congrats to first-year head coach Brian Wilkinson, his staff and players on the come-from-behind victory.
