Let’s be honest. Winter Storm Juno has been a dud for those of us in Ocean County and much of the Jersey Shore.  Predictions of an epic and record-setting blizzard were off the mark as the storm moved east when it raced up the coast.

At one time we were looking at consistent predictions of 18-24 inches of snow with some saying it could be more than that.  Schools were postponed well in advance and officials advised everyone to prepare for blizzard conditions and possible loss of power.

Our preparation here at WOBM turned out to be almost laughable as a dozen or so of us made plans to be able to get here and be on the air.  Some stayed in nearby hotels and I was among several who stayed in our Townsquare Tower in downtown Toms River throughout the night. We had plenty of food and water and at one point last night gathered in our 3rd floor kitchen and realized the only thing missing was snow.  I slept from about midnight until 3am on a couch and figured I would wake up and finally see the blizzard-like conditions. What I saw was light snow and roads that were already cleared. I should have stayed home.

So today as the storm smacks around Boston and Cape Cod we will all talk about how this was much ado about nothing in our area.  Blame will be placed on the media and meteorologists for all the hype and adjectives used to describe what turned out was just a routine snowfall.

Of course nobody will say they blew the forecast because of how unpredictable Mother Nature is. Bottom line is for most of yesterday and even into the evening just about all the weather experts were still calling for a major snowstorm in Ocean and Monmouth County and that was simply not the case.

What we should do this morning is be thankful. At least most of us. You might not be able to go sledding or find it as easy to build a snowman but you’ll likely be able to get around much easier than expected. Surely everyone will be back in school tomorrow. Sorry kids!
