I was thinking about how regimented most of us are each morning and how one small thing can throw us off and sometimes set the tone for the day.  This is especially true for those of us who live by the alarm clock.

Think about what it’s like if you somehow sleep past the buzzer. This usually happens to me about twice a year and my wife is the one who rescues me and panic immediately sets in as in my mind the morning is shot.

However it’s not just sleeping past the alarm clock that can set your day off on a bad note because there are many little things than can and do go wrong.  Here are a few of the more common ones:

  • Cut yourself shaving. This is not so little and fortunately with today’s razor blades it’s rare but when it does happen…oh boy!
  • Can’t figure out what to wear. I avoid this by picking out my clothes before I go to bed.
  • Break a shoelace. This one really sucks because there can be a domino effect that follows.  Let’s say that forces you to change shoes because you simply don’t have the time to fix the lace.  What do you do if you don’t have another pair of shoes to match the clothes you are wearing?  This could cost you valuable minutes in the morning.
  • Car problems. No need to go into details.
  • Get behind a car or cars at Dunkin Donuts. So I get to the drive-thru of mine at pretty much the same exact time each day.  However if there is a car or worse yet two cars in front of me I could be doomed, especially if they are ordering Frozen Coffee Coolatta’s and there is only one person working.

By the way even if all goes well and I get to the office on time there is one more thing that can simply ruin your morning.  That is dropping or spilling your coffee, especially if it gets on your clothes.

That, my friends, means the day is not going to be a good one.  (No, I did not do that today)!
