The Jets, Conor Davies, The Jonas Brothers and Scarlett Johansson

If I would have told you before the NFL season began that after five weeks one of the tenants to MetLife Stadium would be 3-2 and the other 0-5 how many of you would have said the Jets would be the team with the winning record?

Even the most optimistic fans of the green and white would have selected the Giants but after last night’s dramatic win in Atlanta it is the Jets who actually have playoff aspirations while the Giants are still searching for their first victory.

It’s rare when a high school football team can go to its bench and pluck a backup quarterback who is good enough to start for just about any other team. That is the scenario at Lacey High School so last week when senior standout Tom Kelly suffered an injury in the first half of a key game against Toms River South all was not lost.

In came junior Conor Davies who has been contributing as a wide receiver while also playing some quarterback. With an undefeated record on the line and trailing at the half Davies turned in a spectacular performance completing 15 of 20 passes for 207 yards and two touchdowns as the Lions rallied for the victory.  Conor’s older brother Ryan was a record-breaking quarterback at Howell High School and his father Cory is Lacey’s offensive coordinator after a successful stint as the Howell head coach.

For his efforts Conor was named our Klee’s Bar & Grill/Ocean Trophies Player of the Game and you can see his interview at shoresportsnetwork.com.

Fans of the Jonas Brothers don’t have to travel far to see the popular pop rock band as this Sunday they’ll be performing at the Pine Belt Arena in a concert that will also benefit the Toms River Regional Schools Hurricane Relief Fund.  Nick, Joe and Kevin Jonas will be on stage Sunday night with tickets available through Ticketmaster and at the school district offices at 1144 Hooper Avenue between 9am-3pm.  You can also visit www.pinebeltarena.com.  The hurricane relief fund has awarded over $360,000 in grants and also supports the People’s Pantry.

For the second time Scarlett Johansson will adorn the cover of Esquire Magazine under the title of the “Sexiest Woman Alive.”  Seven years after earning that title the 28-year actress, singer and model again has been chosen and is the first to get the honor twice and who is to argue?
