Who? What? Where? When? & WHY??

On my granddaughters’ first birthday I wanted to get her a little something special.  I always liked Barbie dolls and her mom liked Barbie dolls so we figured maybe she would also. In as much as she was still too young to play with them I bought The 2000 Special Edition Barbie, just something that would be the same age as her as she grew older, cute right? As she grew so did her collection: all in all she has to have about 200 Barbies of all shapes and sizes: some with hair chopped all uneven, some with no clothes, some with one arm and a whole lot of them with marker on their faces and I don't think ANY of them have their shoes on.  I would go to flea markets, garage sales and eBay and buy mostly used Barbies because she LOVED playing with them.

As the years went by and she got older her interests changed as do all little girls and I just slowly stopped unless I saw something special.  Well, about 2 months ago I got my Barbie Collector Magazine (they send it out about 3 times a year).  They offer Limited Edition Barbies and I saw one in there that I thought she might like.  It was $50.00 - not bad, but then I thought about it… Does she REALLY need another Barbie?  The ones she played with are all in boxes now and the special ones are just collecting dust in the closet… nah! I passed and just forgot about it, at least that was UNTIL Friday night.  I got a text from her and her girlfriend and this is EXACTLY what it said (frantically) - "GRAM! I Love this doll it will be discontinued soon can U C if it's on Ebay please, I love you!" and attached a picture of the doll.  I ran upstairs to get the catalog, went on Barbie Collectors website and yup it was SOLD OUT.  I went to eBay and my jaw dropped!!  Here was the doll that was $50.00 2 months ago going for $400.00 to over a $1000.00!!!!!!!

Now I want to know WHO decided to take a child's toy, hoard them and get BIG BUCKS so the child them self can't afford to play with and enjoy! I don't like to disappoint either of my grandkids, but it looks like I'm going to have to this time , Here's a little girl that saw a really cool looking doll to play with and she can't because there are adults out there that see just dollar signs.  I hope you get as much enjoyment looking at your doll who has to stay in its’ box otherwise it will go down in value instead of a child who wants to use her imagination to have a good time and is not looking to make a profit!  It's “Tickle Me Elmo" all over again!!! Merry Christmas!
