Until a few weeks ago I had never heard of the Restoration Family Worship Center which was founded in 1994 and operates in Howell under the direction of Senior Pastor, Rev. Glenn J. Wilson.

I was asked to promote the fact they were holding a golf outing which honestly I don’t usually do because there are so many of them taking place during the spring and summer. I could probably mention one just about every week from April-October as for many organizations golf outings are major fundraisers.

However this one is a bit unique. The Restoration Family Worship Center is holding their inaugural event on Monday, May 16th at Eagle Ridge Golf Club in Lakewood and they are using the funds raised to help purchase a sanctuary that would house their current membership and allow them to grow as well.

That is a very noble cause as they seek to serve Howell and surrounding communities. Among their goals is to expand their ability to provide food and clothing to those less fortunate, grow their youth involvement and also help during times of crisis.

The work they have done and more importantly work they want to do has attracted the attention of former Yankees pitcher Mariano Rivera whose credentials on and off the field are second to none. Rivera will be eligible for the Hall of Fame in 2019 and it’s not a question of will he get in but rather how close to a unanimous choice will he be.

The greatest relief pitcher in baseball history is well known for his charitable efforts and he will appear at the golf outing and serve as guest speaker at a dinner afterwards. Registration on May 16th begins at 11:30 with a 1 p.m. shotgun start and the cost is $150 which includes golf and the dinner. Even if you don’t play golf you can attend the dinner and see and hear the great Mariano for $60 and information is available by calling 732- 367-7882 or by sending an email to RFWCBelieves@gmail.com
