I’m sure many of you got to enjoy the first really nice weekend of spring but yours truly did not.

I got hit with some type of intestinal bug Thursday afternoon and to be honest have not felt well since. Most of the weekend was spent on the couch and even today I’m not feeling great so I think I’ll call my doctor.

About the only positive that I can think is it’s a good jump start on a diet because with the exception of toast and a couple of scrambled eggs I’ve lived on Gatorade for the last few days.

The Lakewood BlueClaws season has not gotten off to a good start on the field but for a change the opening home stand has been blessed with great weather and the crowds have come out. More than 7,500 at FirstEnergy Park Sunday and if you were there early you might have seen our own morning news Dianne DeOliveira throw out the first pitch.

That’s because she was the women’s winner in Sunday’s Barnabas Health BlueClaws 5K Run in the Park.  Dianne, a former standout runner at Toms River North, covered the 5K course in 18:58, tops among the women.  I have not received reports on her pitching prowess.Someone we know can pitch will be on the mound for the BlueClaws tonight as Ocean County Mark Leiter Jr. will make his 2014 home debut against Greensboro.

Being home sick these last few days did allow me to watch just about all of the Masters golf coverage on TV and one thing is clear…it’s not the same without Tiger Woods.Sure Bubba Watson is popular and there were some compelling stories coming out of Augusta but a weekend without Woods and Phil Mickelson (who missed the cut) was in some ways a lost weekend.  Whether you like him or not Tiger brings an excitement to the course that cannot be matched.By the way as much as I enjoy the Masters the CBS hype of the hallowed grounds gets to you after a while.

Yankees taking 3-of-4 from the Red Sox goes have meaning because Boston won 13 of 19 meetings last season on their way to capturing the World Series.I think the AL East is a toss-up and don’t see why the Yanks won’t be a factor all season long.
