Three Monmouth County men are arrested for allegedly ransacking unlocked cars in Ocean Township, right on the street where the incidents took place.

Paul Mergel Jr., 26, of Keansburg, Joshua P. Barwick-Canella, 21, of Eatontown, and Edward A. Cambria, 20, of Middletown, were apprehended before daybreak Tuesday by patrol officers on Tilton Drive.

According to information furnished by police, Officer Christopher Brady noticed two men walking along Tilton at about 2:54 AM. When he approached in his squad car, one of them ran off.

Brady detained the other as more officers arrived. They found two more men hiiding in a parked car, police said.

Mergel is charged with burglary, possession of burglary tools, and theft. He posted $5,000 bail that carried a 10-percent option and awaits a municipal court hearing.

Barwick and Cambria face counts of burglary conspiracy, possession of stolen property and possession of burglary tools. Barwick was transferred to the Monmouth County Correctional Institution in Freehold in lieu of $5,000 bail. Cambria was released on a summons.

Police also impounded a 2014 Chevrolet Cruze that they believe was used in the course of the burglaries.

While the fourth suspect remains on the loose, police are asking anyone who witnessed suspicious activity on the night of August 4, or who was an additional vicitm, to reach Detective Bryan Morgan, 732-531-1800.

Law enforcement officials again urge drivers to not only lock their cars, but to take along or conceal cash, valuables, and portable electronic devices, and to park near lighted areas whenever possible at night.
