Marcus Taylor, 24, and Brandon Meachem, 23, are being held in the Ocean County Jail in Toms River on bail of $500,000 each, according to Lakewood police. Both are charged with armed robbery, kidnaping, eluding, theft, weapons counts and driving offenses.

A third victim, Lovetta Houston, 28, was charged with hindering apprehension and released.

One of the victims in the Central Avenue dwelling contacted Jackson police around 5:15 AM, saying he was one of three people confronted with several armed men who broke in and demanded money, authorities said. Jackson police relayed the information to Lakewood.

After failing to get their hands on cash, they took valuables, bound the victims and forced them at gunpoint into a black Infiniti G37, police said.

Three responding officers watched as the car raced toward them and the driver ignored their attempts to stop him, police said.

After smashing the car into a fence on St. Nicholas, the driver and a front seat passenger took off running. The victims, still bound, and two handguns, were left in the car, police said. They asked for no medical attention.

Taylor, Meachem and Houston were arrested at around 11:30 AM, based on information police gathered through the morning.

The incident is still being probed. Information can be given to Detective Peter Aakjer, 732-363-0200, extension 5338.
