Organizers of Ocean County’s 28th Annual Saint Patrick’s Day Parade announce their usual traditional Irish Wake, which will also bring in droves of people ready for plenty of fun and entertainment.

In fact, their fundraising event has brought in such large crowds in year’s past, they’re moving it to a bigger venue this time around. Denis Kelly is the new parade chairman. He says Sunday, February 19th is the day of the big event to raise money for the parade, which will be held in March. Kelly tells us he’s very excited to be involved.

Kelly says “this is an Ocean County staple. The parade is great for families and will have the usual bevy of entertainment. This fundraising event at Hemmingway’s in Seaside Heights is geared more for adults. We start at 3 p.m. and will go until we’re all tired and can’t keep having fun.”

The fundraiser will feature the band Green Spell along with members of the Shamrock and Thistle Pipes and Drums. Wake’s are usually meant to commemorate someone’s life and are often sad. Kelly says “the traditional Irish wake is very different. They all believe you go right to heaven when you die so they believe in being happy and festive during the saying goodbye process.”

In addition to the music, there will be plenty of door prizes and raffles. All of the proceeds go to help offset the cost of the parade. The Ocean County St. Patrick’s Day Committee is a non-profit.

The 28th Ocean County Saint Patrick’s Day Parade kicks off at noon on Saturday March 10, 2012 (Rain Date is Sat March 17th) in Seaside Heights. With a reputation as “The Greenest Parade in All of New Jersey” the parade set record numbers last year exceeding 75,000 spectators of all ages along the Boulevard just one block from the Atlantic Ocean.

An annual fun family event the Parade marks the unofficial start of the Tourist season in Ocean County. Restaurants and Pubs are open early for breakfast and lunch, and weather permitting many of the Boardwalk attractions are open as well. People are encouraged to arrive early this year as construction on the inbound lanes on the Route 37 bridge will close one lane in that direction.
