Veteran’s Day Parade Comes to Toms River

Veterans Day is more than just a day off from school or that big furniture sale. 

Ocean County’s annual Veterans Day Parade kicked off this morning in downtown Toms River. While hundreds attended, it’s a lot smaller than the thousands who took part in the recent Halloween Parade.

Most service members we spoke to tell us they understand but they feel a greater emphasis needs to be placed on educating young children about the importance of the day.

Parents with school-age children echoed that sentiment saying it's vitally important for their kids to honor those men and women who served.

Toms River Mayor Tom Kelaher led a service outside town hall when the parade ended and was happy to be back for the ceremony which canceled last year due to Superstorm Sandy. He hoped that everybody would take a few minutes today to "honor those who made it possible for us to be free."

Several marching bands took part from the Shore area.
