Video: Car fire erupts following crash in Toms River; 3 injured

Three people were injured following a motor vehicle crash Thursday that caused one vehicle to burst into flames, police said.

According to Toms River police, the crash occurred at 7:30 a.m. at the intersection of Bey Lea Road and Lomell Lane. When Traffic Safety Officer Terry Warren responded to the scene, he found that a 2013 Ford being driven by Caitlin Russo, 27, of Toms River had been traveling west on Bey Lea Road. Police say the driver began to make a left-hand turn onto Lomell Lane in front of a 2016 Chevy being driven eastbound by 59-year-old George Delia Jr.

"The vehicles collided and as a result of the impact the Chevy began to rapidly catch fire," police said in a statement.

Crews from the Pleasant Plains Fire Company arrived at the scene to extinguish the flames, police said.

According to authorities, Russo complained of back pain and was taken to Community Medical Center by EMS crews from Toms River. Delia, who suffered a hand injury, was also transported to the medical center, police said. A 59-year-old female passenger in Delia’s vehicle was also transported to the same hospital for a knee injury and possible internal injuries.

Russo was issued a summons for failing to yield, according to police.
