The conventions are over and the race for the White House between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump has officially begun and most Americans will likely cast their ballot for the lesser of two evils.

Neither major party candidate has resonated with a majority of voters despite what you might have heard in Philadelphia and Cleveland over the last two weeks and most of us are less than enthusiastic over our choices for President.

The story about how Clinton’s candidacy is historic because she’s the first woman nominated is not nearly as significant as Barack Obama being the first African-American to seek and become president for one simple reason.  I feel like she’s been running for President ever since her womanizing husband had that Oval Office scandal.

I mean how many of us drew the conclusion that Hillary staying with Bill was part of a deal in which one day she would run for the presidency and he would support her?  That was more than 20 years ago and Hillary is certainly not a newcomer to all of this and not exactly a fresh face.  Even those who will likely vote for her admit she has major dishonesty issues which you would like to think is important even in today’s political world in which nobody really trusts anyone.

On the other hand you have a fresh political face in Trump but is he the person you want to be the face of America for at least four years.  Part of his charm is he shoots from the hip…part of his problem is he often talks before he thinks which scares many when it comes to dealing with global affairs.

He brags about what a successful businessman he’s been but that comes with many asterisks including using the system to rid himself of bad investments at a cost to others.  However he talks tough at a time when many believe that is needed more than ever on both our streets and ones across the world.

There is no doubt about one thing and that is there are clear differences between Clinton and Trump and I’m sure that will play out over the next four months.  Hopefully by November 8th I’ll be able to cast my vote for someone with confidence because right now I have little in either choice.
