This weekend, for the third straight year, New Jersey fans of "The Walking Dead" — and fans of zombies, horror and sci-fi in general -- will get a chance to meet cast members from the AMC show and immerse themselves in an experience like no other at Walker Stalker Con in Edison.

The convention, which runs from 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, July 9 and 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, July 10 at the New Jersey Convention & Exposition Center, is one of 13 "Walking Dead"-related events run this year by the Fan Fest company. Eleven are in U.S. cities, one is in London, and there is also a show-themed cruise.

"We do tend to have a larger turnout, on the actors' [side], for the New York show, but they really love doing this and connecting with their fans all around the country and the world," said Jackie Prutsman, vice president of Fan Fest. She added that even people who aren't avid "Walking Dead" watchers will find something fun.

And while many of the actors will be present for either one or both of Walker Stalker Con's two days, some of them making very rare appearances, those meet-and-greets may not be the main attraction.

"Along with the actors, we have attractions like The Walking Dead Experience, that brings you right into the world of zombies," Prutsman said, referring to the 25-minute, interactive zombie apocalypse scenario that makes convention-goers feel they are an actual part of the show. "It really fills a void that fans are craving in the zombie and sci-fi genre."
