The Waretown man who admitted sexually abusing a preteen for six years awaits psychological evaluations before his prison sentence is determined.

Frederic Whitehead, 45, pleaded guilty in Ocean County Superior Court to one first-degree count of aggravated sexual assault and a second-degree charge of sexual assault, according to information from the office of County Prosecutor Joseph D. Coronato.

Whitehead remains incarcerated, with bail at $250,000. Sentencing follows psychological examinations at the Adult Diagnostic Treatment Center in Avenel. His attorney seeks a 10-year term concurrent to five years in a state prison.

Prosecutors ask for a 13-year sentence, concurrent to eight years before parole consideration under New Jersey's No Early Release Act, lifetime parole supervision. registration as a sex offender under Megan's Law and banning of contact with the victim under Nicole's Law.

Whitehead's plea corresponds to allegations of incidents that occurred between May 2006, when the victim was six years of age, and August 2012, when the victim was 12. He was arrested on July 1, 2013.
