When the dust settles sometime Sunday night a total of 24 teams in New Jersey will be able to proclaim themselves as state champions which his ludicrous to begin with.  I could spend these two minutes telling you that states much bigger than ours are able to run a more meaningful playoff system that in the end produces about five champions based on school size.

However the system in place by the NJSIAA fits nicely for those who believe everyone should get a trophy or a championship jacket or ring.  What I do what to focus on is the fact that nine of those potential 24 state champions could be from the Shore Conference which would be quite an achievement.

All of the schools from Ocean and Monmouth County seeking state sectional crowns will be in action tomorrow at three different sites and we’ll start at Rutgers where all four Central Jersey finals involve local teams.

Call it “Breakfast in Piscataway” when Manalapan faces nearby Piscataway High School at 10am in a rematch of game played just five weeks ago which the undefeated Braves won 21-10.  Following that Middletown North will seeks its first state title since 1996 when they meet Sayreville.

At 4pm the Brick “Green Dragons” go for their 8th championship against Allentown and at night Rumson-Fair Haven shoots for their fourth straight title against South Plainfield.

There are a pair of South Jersey title games at Rowan University and both will be broadcast live on the Shore Sports Network’s WOBM  AM 1160/1310. Wall will collide with four-time defending champion Delsea at 11am and Toms River North seeks to finish a perfect season when they take on Millville at 6pm.

Finally at Kean University it will be a triple-header starting at 1pm as Mater Dei Prep tries to win their first-ever football state championship against Holy Spirit.

Then it’s an all-shore title game as Asbury Park meets Keyport before Manasquan tries to win their 12th championship at night against Bernards.
