President Barack Obama (D) gave props to higher energy production in the United States while the topic for Republicans remained Obamacare in their respective weekly media addresses.

Obama says improved energy efficiency and higher energy production in the United States are yielding environmental and economic benefits that are helping ensure cleaner air and a more competitive business landscape. He drew attention to increased U.S. oil extraction, which last month exceeded oil imports for the first time in nearly two decades.

He says that represents, quote, "a tremendous step towards American energy independence."

Obama noted that the environmental impact on the increase. “It proves that the old argument that we can’t strengthen the economy and be good stewards of our planet at the same time is a false choice. We can do both,” said the president.

Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WIsconsin) delivered the Republican address, criticizing the 3-year-old health care law. He says Obama's unmet claims that Americans would be able to keep their insurance plans amounted to, quote, "political fraud."

"Consumer fraud this massive in the private sector could – and should – bear serious legal ramifications," Johnson said. "For President Obama, however, it helped secure enough votes to pass Obamacare, and win reelection."

He calls Obama's acknowledgement that he fumbled the launch of the health care enrollment period a phony apology. " It is obvious that you didn't inadvertently misspeak when you promised Americans they can keep their doctors and health plans."
