UNIVERSITY PARK, MARYLAND. — Police in Maryland are still looking for a missing student from Toms River who took a cab to Baltimore and has not been heard from since.

Kaitlyn George, a 2014 graduate of Toms River High School North, left her dorm at Allegany Hall on the campus of the University of Maryland in College Park just outside Washington, D.C. on Thursday afternoon, according to University Police.

The 21-year-old, Nicknamed Kaity, was seen in surveillance video carrying a camping-style backpack and pink bag around 4:42 p.m., police said. Her boyfriend reporter her missing after she failed to show up at the Eppley Recreation Center, where they were going to leave for a hiking trip, around 5 p.m.

Police said that instead, George got into a white taxi cab by herself a few minutes later, and it dropped her off in front of a marina in the Federal Hill neighborhood of Baltimore about 35 miles to the north. A review of more video surveillance showed her getting into a waiting SUV, all of her own accord and by herself, police said.

A witness reported seeing George on a free shuttle bus called the Charm City Circulator the next morning, and she has not been seen since, police said. However, University police said they have no reason to suspect foul play.

CBS Baltimore reported police, have not been able to track her cell phone which struck former Toms River North track and swim teammate Stephanie Rogers as odd.

"This is very out of character for Katie. She's very responsible," Rogers told New Jersey 101.5.

Rogers said George is majoring in aerospace engineering, is very smart and is a good athlete.

"She was a kind, funny, smart person," Rogers said. "Whenever she smiled, she'd brighten up the rest of the team," and encourage everyone with an infectious love and enthusiasm — no matter no matter the outcome of their latest event.

University Police asked anyone with information about George's whereabouts to call them at 302-405-3555.
