Winter is getting off to a wet and windy start in New Jersey, causing power outages, flooding roads and delaying holiday travelers.

Wind gusts of up to 50 mph are delaying flights arriving at Newark Liberty International Airport by more than three hours.

Jersey Central Power & Light is reporting 19,798 customers are without electricity, mainly in Monmouth County.

PSE+G is reporting outages on its website map with customers in Essex, Mercer and Bergen counties hardest hit.

Atlantic City Electric is working to restore service to 10,942 customers.

There are reports of street flooding in Toms River.

Meteorologist Patrick O'Hara at the National Weather Service in Mount Holly says about an inch of rain has fallen across the state, although there's been an inch and a half in northern sections.

The rain is expected to taper off before the afternoon.

Temperatures are expected to drop into the 40s.
