Random thoughts on this final Monday of January, a month which has reminded us that winter is still alive and well.

I was in New York City this weekend to see Spider-Man on Broadway.  I won’t say it was one of my favorite shows but it was very different and the high-flying acrobatics were pretty amazing.

There were quite a few kids in the audience and I imagine most were bored by the music and dialogue but thoroughly enjoyed Spider-Man running and flying around the theatre.  There was a funny moment in the show when the two main characters kissed on stage and all you heard in the quite theatre was one little boy uttering a sound of disgust.

By the way, one of the things that always amazes me is that regardless of the time of year Times Square is always jammed with tourists.  Here was this bitterly-cold weekend but the city was still packed and a variety of languages could be heard while walking around.

Raise your hand if you watched more than one play of last night’s Pro Bowl game in Honolulu?  Not too many.  Now raise your hand if you watched the entire game?I see one. Must have had a big bet on the game.  By the way it might have been the last one played but really who cares. I forgot all about the game.

It sure looks like Tiger Woods is going to finish January with his 75th PGA Tour victory.  Woods has a six shot lead through 7 holes of the final round of the Farmer’s Insurance Open in San Diego which will not conclude until today because of fog over the weekend.  It’s a good way to start the year for Tiger but of course he’s judged by majors and has not claimed one of those since the 2008 US Open.

Toms River South, Brick Memorial, Jackson Memorial and Howell have earned the top four seeds in the Shore Conference Wrestling Tournament and will host Round of 16 and quarterfinal matches Thursday.

For the second straight year Southern Regional will not participate because of the negative impact it could have on the Rams seeding for the state team championships as wrestling teams grapple with the problems associated with the current points system used in New Jersey.
