Woman Brutally Attacked at Toms River Motel

A brutal stabbing at the Americana Motel in Toms River is under investigation.  

Police say 48-year-old Steen Tarpley of Seaside Heights is accused of attacking a 31-year-old Toms River woman multiple times with a screwdriver Sunday afternoon after holding her against her will at the hotel on Route 166 for an undetermined period of time.

Tarpley also physically and sexually assaulted her according to police.

He fled the hotel and was located by police at a bus stop near the Home Depot several miles to the north.

Tarpley is accused of abducting and sexually assaulting the woman.  He's at the Ocean County Jail, bail set at $500,000.
