Kara Silverman says she grew up with the "Rolling Thunder" ride at Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson and doesn't want to see it taken down. She launched a petition on Change.org that had attracted more than 500 signatures by Sunday afternoon.

The amusement park says it's going ahead with plans to take the ride down this fall to make way for the new Zumanjaro, Drop of Doom, billed as the world's tallest drop ride.

A park spokeswoman tells the Asbury Park Press that officials held a ceremony Saturday night giving members of a national roller coaster group certificates to receive a piece of the track.
