Tax day is just days away and while we all scramble to get our papers in to Uncle Sam, some wonder what it would be like if the system was totally different.

A forum tonight at Monmouth University in West Long Branch will focus on other possible options.

Imagine if you were allowed to keep your whole paycheck and only pay taxes on what you spend.  It's one of the principles behind the Fair Tax.  The plan would essentially do away with the income tax and replace it with a consumption tax.  Accounting Professor Doug Stives says "it sounds like a good idea in theory but it probably won't work.  There are parts of it that could potentially have an impact."

Stives' students will be there for tonight's debate with Fair Tax New Jersey.  He says "they've taken an interest in the system that has been kicked around for over ten years now."

The event starts at 5 p.m. in Bey Hall.
