Here’s a guaranteed bad start to your morning. You pull up to a Dunkin' Donuts and order coffee at the drive-thru even though you’re a couple of minutes behind schedule. When you drive around to the window you see there’s a car in front of you and unfortunately they have ordered things that take a bit longer to make like a frozen Dunkaccino and breakfast sandwich. Now you’re going to be late.

The only worse start to your morning is when you break a shoelace. If you break a shoelace AND get stuck at the Dunkin' Donuts drive thru on the same morning you know it’s going to be a long day.

Congratulations and best wishes to Kyle Sandberg, who was named head football coach at Toms River East Wednesday night. Sandberg is a 2005 graduate of East who went on to play football at Southern Connecticut before returning to his alma mater as a teacher and assistant coach. Sandberg was the Raiders defensive coordinator in each of the last two seasons under Charlie Diskin who resigned in December following back-to-back one win seasons.

I try and stay informed as much as possible and have been following the story in Lakewood dealing with the courtesy busing of students. I don’t know enough to offer any comment except to say it’s a disgrace and students and parents deserve better. Somebody needs to start coming up with answers and solutions.

It’s going to be in the 50s this weekend and baseball spring training has begun in Florida and Arizona. Spring can’t be too far away. Of course there’s still plenty of time for winter to deal us another blow or two so don’t put away the snow shovels and ice melt.

Second round of Shore Conference Basketball Tournament tonight features the third meeting of the season between Toms River North and Toms River East and an interesting matchup between Lakewood and Point Beach. Check out Matt Manley’s Round of 16 predictions at shoresportsnetwork.com

My Sports Illustrated comes in the mail today. I think it’s the swimsuit issue. Looking forward to the articles.
