A New Alternative To Heart Surgery [VIDEO]

Millions of Americans suffer from a potentially life threatening condition known as Aortic Stenosis. For years, the only real way of treating it was with risky open heart surgery. That’s no longer the case as another option is now available and is being rolled out in New Jersey.

A team at the Barnabas Health Systems is one of the few groups approved to use Edwards SAPIEN Transcatheter Heart Valve to treat it and save the lives of those with aortic valve disease.

Aortic stenosis is a condition where the aortic valve narrows, thereby limiting blood flow from the aorta to the rest of the body. Left untreated, aortic valve stenosis can lead to serious heart problems, including heart failure and even death.

Dr. Craig Saunders, M.D., Chairman, Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Barnabas Health System, the first in New Jersey to do this revolutionary procedure and one of the few in the United States, said “this offers hope to frail heart patients who can’t withstand open heart surgery. It should change the landscape of treatment for patients with valve disease.

The FDA recently approved its use. Dr. Saunders says if you have any questions or need more information, you can call him direct at 973-926-7904.

Here’s a YouTube video showing an example of how it works:
