Seven weeks after the Green Dragons pulled out a 30-24 overtime victory in Jackson the teams meet tonight in the semifinals of the Central Jersey Group 4 sectional. The scene shifts to Keller Memorial Field with all those green and white championship banners flapping in the wind and despite freezing temperatures expect the action on the field to be very hot.

The Jaguars have not lost since that Saturday night in early October and they come into tonight’s game ranked #1 at the shore by virtue of their upset win over Red Bank Catholic earlier this month. Jackson’s surge has been led by the 1-2 attack of running backs Vinny Lee and Mike Gawlik who run behind maybe the top offensive line at the shore.  Brick, whose only loss was a double overtime stunner to Wall the week after they beat Jackson, is looking for its second straight sectional title and 8th in school history.

Their hopes rest on the legs and right arm of senior quarterback Carmen Sclafani who has run for over 1000 yards and passed for over a 1000 yards for the second straight season.  Anchoring the Brick defense is middle linebacker James Juliano, the leading tackler in the Shore Conference.

Rematches often don’t live up to expectations and it’s doubtful that tonight’s game can match what took place on the field in the earlier meeting. However the stakes are larger as one team will advance to a state final while the other will take off their uniform for the final time.

Most of the experts favor the visiting Jaguars but something tells me Brick will find a way to pull out a close victory. This is the Jersey Mike’s Game of the Week and it will be broadcast on News Talk Radio WOBM 1160 & 1310 AM as well as ShoreSportsNetwork.com.

The cold weather we’ve experienced and the pictures we’ve seen of Buffalo are a stark reminder that winter is almost here.  That means before long WOBM’s Ocean County Stormwatch will go into effect. That’s the program used by schools, organizations and businesses to post cancellations and delays online which are also read on air.

A heads-up to those you use the Stormwatch program: watch your email today with important information about the program including your new password.  That’s because we have a new system in place that is similar to what we have been using but is considerably better for all who count on the program during times of inclement weather.  The email will be coming from njstormwatch@townsquaremedia.com
