Robert Kovacs was arrested in connection with the rifling of a storm-strewn Toronto Drive house, but detectives say they’ve connected him to at least 10, and maybe 12, similar burglaries in the past several weeks. They believe that there may be other victims.

Police say they were called to the home late Monday night by the victim, who parks in the driveway of a neighboring storm-damaged unoccupied house with permission from the owner. The victim’s driveway contains storm debris.

According to police, the victim found a car already in the driveway, with a woman and a three-month-old infant inside, about 10:45 PM. The woman claimed to be waiting for a boyfriend who was visiting in the neighborhood.

Police say the victim entered the house as an intruder fled the rear door and called authorities, describing a car leaving the area.

Kovacs was pulled over on Drum Point Road. He was charged with burglary, theft, criminal mischief and possession of burglary tools, and placed in the Ocean County Jail in Toms River. His bail was set at $30,000, with no option for release on payment of 10 percent.
