Sooner or later the Mets will lose a baseball game but if you’re a long-suffering fan there’s no reason why you should not enjoy what’s taking place right now.

The Mets rallied from a 3-0 deficit last night to edge visiting Washington 4-3 and are now a perfect 4-0 on the season.  It’s unlikely the Amazins’ will go undefeated and before long the headlines in this area will likely be devoted to the Yankees and Phillies but for right now being a Mets fan is not all that bad.

Weather permitting history could be made tomorrow night on the baseball field at Toms River South where the Indians are scheduled to host Southern Regional.  A South win would be #755 in the storied career of head coach Ken Frank and it would make him the winningest coach in New Jersey history.  Frank now shares that honor with the late Tony Ferrainolo of Memorial High School after collecting his 754th victory in come from behind fashion Monday against longtime rival Toms River North.  Down 4-0 the Indians scored 7 runs in the 6th and added another in the 7th which they needed as the Mariners made things very interesting with three in the bottom of the 7th before John Leiter got out of a bases-loaded jam with a game-ending double play.

After going 1-8 in his first two games Todd Frazier singled, doubled and drove in two runs last night as the Louisville Bats beat Toledo in a Triple A game.  The former Toms River South and Rutgers standout appeared to have made the Cincinnati Reds opening day roster before being sent down to the minors last week.

Seton Hall’s Brian Gilbert, a former Toms River North standout, was named the Big East Pitcher of the Week after throwing a complete game 4-hitter over the weekend as the Pirates blanked Notre Dame 2-0.  The 6’1 sophomore struck out a career-high 6 batters in winning his second game in five decisions.  Gilbert was one of the shore’s top pitchers at North and contributed to Seton Hall as a freshman as both a starter and reliever.
