Freeholders To Award Local Non-Profits $40,000 In Grants
The Ocean County Board of Chosen Freeholders will provide $40,000 in transportation mini-grants to 20 local non-profit organizations this week.
Despite less grant money than previous years, this outreach continues to separate Ocean County from the rest of the counties in NJ.
“The mini-grant program began in 1985 and has provided more than $1.6 million to a variety of non-profit organizations,” says Freeholder Director Gerry Little. ”Ocean County continues to be the only county in the state to provide a portion of its grant funds to help local non-profit agencies.”
The grants come from a portion of the casino revenue grant the county receives from NJ Transit.
Each organization will receive $2,000 to help upgrade their transportation services.
Little says the totals were limited this year due to the struggling Atlantic City casinos.
