The Ocean County Board of Chosen Freeholders will provide $40,000 in transportation mini-grants to 20 local non-profit organizations this week.

Despite less grant money than previous years, this outreach continues to separate Ocean County from the rest of the counties in NJ.

“The mini-grant program began in 1985 and has provided more than $1.6 million to a variety of non-profit organizations,” says Freeholder Director Gerry Little.  ”Ocean County continues to be the only county in the state to provide a portion of its grant funds to help local non-profit agencies.”

The grants come from a portion of the casino revenue grant the county receives from NJ Transit.

Each organization will receive $2,000 to help upgrade their transportation services.

Little says the totals were limited this year due to the struggling Atlantic City casinos.

Organizations receiving funding include:

  3. Community Medical Center Foundation
  4. Community Services, Inc. of Ocean County
  5. Counseling & Referral Services of O.C.dba Seashore Family Services, Inc.
  6. Eye Openers of Point Pleasant/Brick
  7. Interfaith Health & Support Services of Southern Ocean County
  8. Jewish Family & Children’s Services/Jewish Federation of O.C
  9. LADACIN Network (Cerebral Palsy of Monmouth/Ocean Counties)
  10. Long Beach Island Community Center, Inc.
  11. Manchester Township Senior Outreach Program
  12. NJ Coalition on Women & Disabilities Ocean County Chapter
  13. Ocean County Board of Social Services
  14. Ocean Housing Alliance, Inc
  15. Our Special Kids of Toms River, Inc.
  16. The Special Children Center, Inc.
  17. Team Randy, Inc.
  18. Toms River Township Senior Center
  19. Twenty-One-Plus, Inc.
