A little of this and a little of that today.

How dumb is Yankee pitcher Michael Pineda? He was tossed out in the second inning of last night’s game in Boston for using pine tar to get a better grip on the baseball.  Red Sox manager John Farrell, a Shore Regional HS graduate, brought it to the attention of the home plate umpire and it was quite obvious as the sticky substance was on Pineda’s neck.

You might remember when the teams played two weeks ago in the Bronx he clearly had pine tar on his arm but got away with it on that occasion. Pitchers using pine tar to improve their grip in cool weather is apparently quite common but the idea is to try and hide it. Pineda basically advertised its use.  He also faces a suspension which he should...for being dumb.

There will be a lot of people from Brick looking for tickets to the September 21st football game between the Giants and Texans at MetLife Stadium.  The NFL schedule was announced last night and that week three matchup brings former Brick Memorial standout Garrett Graham back to New Jersey.

Coming off his best season with Houston, Graham signed a three-year $11 million deal in March and the tight end figures to thrive under new coach Bill O’Brien.  Last fall Graham had his number retired at Brick Memorial.

Watched the season debut of Deadliest Catch this week as the show returned for a 10th year on the Discovery channel. It’s basically the same cast of characters from the Time Bandit, Northwestern, Wizard and other fishing boats searching for Alaskan King Crab in the Bering Sea.  To me this is the best of reality television.

Toms River’s Mike Kane will graduate from Ramapo College on May 16th and the next day leave for Brazil.  No it’s not a post-graduation vacation but rather to play volleyball as Kane is one of 10 NCAA Division III male players from throughout the US selected to take part in the Brazilian tour.

A 6’7 middle blocker, he earned Skyline Conference First team honors recently after helping Ramapo to a 25-11 record this season including a 12-2 conference mark.  A computer science major, Kane earned All Shore honors while playing for Toms River East.
