48-year-old Kevin Perrone Sr.  had been in charge for thirty years.  He passed away early yesterday morning after complications from a lung ailment.

The department, which had been holding fundraisers in support of "6100's" family, made the announcement of the chief's death on their Facebook page on Wednesday. "Chief Perrone was not only our leader, but a mentor, brother, well respected and most of all, a great friend! Chief Perrone has served 30+ years with LHFD and has held multiple positions within the department over the years," read the post.

Perrone's lungs filled up with fluid on Memorial Day causing him to pass out. He had been hospitalized ever since explained former Chief Jack Amrozewicz to the Patch of Lacey.

A viewing will be held Sunday from 3 - 9 p.m. at the Riggs Funeral Home in Forked River.  Funeral services are set for Monday.

Donations may be made in the chief's memory to the Lanoka Harbor Vol. Fire Company.
