Paying It Forward

Friends Helping Friends of New Jersey was formed following the “pay it forward” philosophy as the organization holds fundraising events to assist friends and their families who are in need of financial assistance and other support.

They are gearing up for their 4th Annual Golf Outing and Dinner Gift Auction on Friday, October 26th at Eagle Ridge Golf Club in Lakewood.  The first three events raised more than $160,000 with all of the proceeds going to six individuals and their families as well as the Wounded Warrior Project.

The beneficiaries of year’s golf outing and gift auction include Sean Martyn, a former Brick High School football player who is battling an aggressive form of cancer and recently received a bone marrow transplant and is now undergoing chemotherapy.  You might remember I told you about Sean a while back as his cancer was actually discovered as the result of an injury he suffered while playing football for the Green Dragons.

Another person who will be helped by the October 26th event is Diane Dudek, who is battling various forms of cancer which have resulted in mounting medical bills.  Her family has supported Friends Helping Friends in the past and now they are returning the favor.  The last of this year’s recipients is the family of New Jersey State Trooper Jim Hoopes, who passed away suddenly last month at the age of 40 and leaves behind a wife and two sons.   Hoopes was a resident of Northfield and active in his community as a volunteer coach.

Last year’s golf outing was a sellout and the dinner and gift auction drew well over 400 people and organizers are certainly hoping for the same kind of turnout on October 26th.  That gift auction by the way will feature over 100 gift baskets and

Vacations, flat screen TV’s, sports memorabilia, IPads and much more.  For information you can visit friendshelpingfriendsnj.com or call (732) 557-5060.

On an unrelated note the Pine Belt Arena at Toms River High School North will be the site of a Family Health Fair tomorrow from 5:30-8pm.  The fair is being sponsored by Community Medical Center and the Toms River Regional School District and will focus on family health and wellness.  Visit the district’s web page at trschools, com for details.
