Gilmore's income taxes are at the center of the probe, according to information in the Asbury Park Press that is attributed to WWOR-TV.

Investigators reportedly are examining the details of a $20,000 loan, given to and repaid by, a contractor in Ocean County, though the Press cites IRS documents for tax years 2012, 2013 and 2014.

No one has spoken on record, but The Press says that the party chairman has retained Chatham attorney Kevin Marino as legal counsel.

Several attempts to reach Gilmore this afternoon went unreturned.
