According to Seaside Park PD Corporal Stephen Shadiack, a 48-year-old woman from Seaside Heights called 911 at 11:22 PM to report being jumped near a dirt lot fronting the Boulevard, near Porter Avenue.

"She said that she was on the way to her vehicle when a man jumped from between two cars and tried to grab her purse. She tells us that he brandished a firearm," the Corporal said. "She described him as a black male, medium build, wearing a hat."

She was not robbed, not injured and declined medical attention, but was visibly shaken, police said.

The alleged victim claimed to have begun screaming and activated her car's lights and horn, which caused her assailant to run off empty-handed. Despite the ruckus, no one came to her aid, police said.

Residents in nearby homes, when questioned by officers, claimed to have heard and seen nothing, according to Corporal Shadiack.

The investigation remains open. Anyone who might have witnessed the encounter can reach borough police at 732-793-8000.
