When members of the Squankum Fire Department extricated 77-year-old John Najar from his 2013 Honda CRV, he was unconscious, but breathing, according to Township authorities.

Najar was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune by Farmingdale First Aid and Medics.

The truck driver, 43-year-old Walter Smith of Lanoka Harbor, sustained a minor injury to his right forearm. Smith's passenger, 24-year-old Gary Potts of Roebling, complained of leg leg pain, according to authorities.

Route 547 was closed for about 6 hours between Birdsall Road and Route 524 during the investigation. The Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office Serious Crash Unit and the SCART Team are assisting in the probe.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Patrolman Scott Brooks or Sergeant Joseph Markulic with the Howell Police Department at 732-938-4111
