A little of this and a little of that a day after Election Day which for all the talk of change produced very little of it for the most part in New Jersey.

Maybe those that advocate change the most have just given up. In Ocean County only 37% of registered voters went to the polls while in Monmouth County the turnout was even smaller with just over 31% casting ballots.   The truth is that the public for the most part has lost faith in their elected officials who they feel put party ahead of people regardless of what party we’re talking about.

It also seems like the scrutiny candidates must face is keeping many from even seeking political office and truthfully who can blame them.  More and more the people being elected to office are doing so without a true mandate and I see little to reverse that trend.

On a more frivolous note, it’s decision time for me.  My daughter has been pushing me to participate in one of those November fundraisers in which men go the entire month without shaving.  “No Shave November” encourages men (and women) to donate the money they would have spend on shaving products during the month to the American Cancer Society.

Meanwhile one of our sister stations in Atlantic City does a No Shave promotion with the fundraising tied in to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.  I last had a beard about 28 years ago and before that sported a fairly bad mustache which my kids make fun of when they see pictures.

I have now gone six days without shaving as I ponder what direction to take and I look very scruffy.  My biggest problem is framing out some kind of beard as the last time I even thought about this I did such a bad job shaving I had to bail on the effort.  I need to make a decision in the next day or so and if I do proceed have to find someone or someplace that can regularly perform trimming.

Red Bank quarterback Jack Navitsky beat out Jackson Memorial sophomore running back Mike Gawlik in voting for the Shore Sports Network’s Ace Power Equipment Player of the Week. Navitsky threw four touchdown passes and accounted for nearly 300 yards in the Bucs win over Holmdel while Gawlik ran for 137 yards and 4 touchdowns in the Jaguars rout of Toms River East.  They were two of the 13 nominees in this week’s fan voting on ShoreSportsNetwork.com.

Meanwhile Brick quarterback Carmen Sclafani and the entire Neptune defense were saluted as the overall Shore Conference Players of the Week at  ShoreSportsNetwork.com.
