Today was my first day sitting in on the Bob and Marianne show and I not only enjoyed listening to the newscast, but working with Lauren.  While we had numerous conversations and touched on many topics one that really stuck with us was…BREAKFAST! Although breakfast is deemed the most important meal of the day, Lauren and I are some of the few who aren't breakfast people. Don’t be so surprised I know we’re not the only ones out there who might skip that essential meal. According to NPD Morning MealScape it is estimated that about 31 million Americans skip breakfast each day, the largest age group being between 18-34 years of age.

 

Some of the side effects of not eating breakfast however are obesity, lowered cognition, and in female college students irregular menstrual cycles. Yikes! Who knew breakfast could have such an effect on not only your day, but your entire health? So the real question is what exactly can be done to close this “skipping breakfast” gap among those who simply don't like it?

Breakfast shakes, granola bars, yogurt, and fruit are items that can be quick and easy to not only eat, but pack away in a bag for your day. Breakfast shakes specifically are a good source of vitamins and are universal whether you’re lactocantlrinte, vegan, or have allergies. Trust me they have a shake for you out there!  I just like Lauren have done my research and have found the perfect breakfast item for myself and my schedule. So, although you may not go for the eggs, ham, and toast…don’t skip breakfast in total. Grab a yogurt, mix a shake, or pick some fruit your morning and your health will benefit.
