Thoughts For The End Of July
Some random thoughts and notes heading into the final full week of July
I have to tell you that those “Stronger than the Storm” radio and TV commercials are like fingernails on a blackboard for those who are still dealing with destruction and despair.
The return of Snooki and JWoww to the Jersey Shore seems to be getting mixed reviews. Reports that the two will be filming a new MTV show in Seaside Heights and Pelican Island are welcome news to local business owners looking for anything that brings people to the area. However residents, especially on the Sandy-ravaged Berkeley Township half of Pelican Island are not thrilled over what filming might bring. MTV has still not provided any details.
I think you have to draw the conclusion that it’s just not going to happen for the Yankees this season. Too many injuries to overcome and by the time they get Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez back in the lineup they might be too far back to make a serious playoff push. Plus who knows what the two veterans have left.
For some reason I have never really warmed up to Phil Mickelson but his back nine performance at the British Open Sunday was really one for the ages. Meanwhile it’s fair to question if Tiger Woods will win another major as he continues to stumble where he used to put away challengers.
Football season is here. NFL training camps open this week with veterans reporting to the Jets and Eagles on Thursday and the Giants opening camp Friday.
With the U.S. Army All Shore Gridiron Classic now history for another summer it’s time to focus on the new high school football season and based on what some tell me among the teams to watch this fall are Barnegat, Monsignor Donovan, Brick, Toms River South, Southern and Lacey.
If you want to see a movie that provides laughs from beginning to end then “The Heat” with Melissa McCarthy and Sandra Bullock is well worth the price of admission. Nobody is winning an Oscar for this one but you will leave the theatre with a smile on your face…if not, then you are humorless.
