Turning Down The Heat [VIDEO]

Even if you have little or no interest in pro basketball you were probably aware that the Miami Heat were closing in on an NBA record that many thought would never been challenged.

Turns out the 1971-72 LA Lakers can breathe a sigh of relief as last night the Heat lost to the Bulls in Chicago which ended their winning streak at 27 games, six shy of the Lakers record.  Miami started the winning streak on Super Bowl Sunday.

Times certainly have changed in the Toms River Regional School District and they will change even more when Superintendent Frank Roselli leaves at the end of the current school year.  The 61-year old informed the Board of Education last week that he would be retiring earlier than expected after suffering a heart attack a few weeks ago.

Roselli has spent 32 years in the Toms River district and assumed the superintendent’s position in 2011 during a time of trouble following the resignation of Michael Ritacco.  He has done much to restore confidence in the district and Roselli’s style and demeanor has gone a long way to healing some major wounds.

With that said with the new makeup of the Board of Education it would seem likely the next superintendent will come from outside the district and have no connections to Toms River.

Here’s a fundraiser I would not miss.  Tuscan Bistro & Bar on Hooper Avenue in Toms River in partnership with Hometown Heroes will team up to help four area Beach Patrols in the wake of Superstorm Sandy.  Saving Our Lifeguards “One Night Stand” will take place on Sunday, April 21st beginning at 6pm with proceeds to help the Beach Patrols of Seaside Heights, Seaside Park, Lavallette and Ortley Beach.

All suffered major equipment loss and damage from the storm and tickets are on sale now for $25 at Tuscan Bistro & Bar.  The event will feature food, entertainment, a gift auction and more.

Several people have asked me how Toms River’s Todd Frazier is doing this spring with the Cincinnati Reds.  I’m happy to report that after a slow start due partly to injury things are going quite well for the second-year Reds third baseman.

Frazier has 5 homers and 11 RBI’s in just 50 at-bats and has his batting average up to .260. The former Toms River South and Rutgers standout is coming off a terrific rookie season and will be in the starting lineup when the Reds open their season at home Monday against the Angels.
