If you heard the sirens today from Oyster Creek, don't be alarmed, it was just a test, and only a test. If it was an actual emergency, you'd be directed from, none other than News Talk Radio WOBMAM where to go.

But, the test got me thinking, and I made some calls. According to the Ocean County Health Department, between 9 and 4 p.m. every day, anyone can come in and get their potassium iodide tablets with proof of residency.

I found out today Oyster Creek generates power for more than 600,000 homes in Monmouth and Ocean Counties.

They have 45 sirens in a 10-mile radius that will be sounded if God forbid anything happens. But in the interim, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
